GRASS Cliftonville CIC has completed the following regeneration projects at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns since July 2021:
- Replanting & mulching of the Eastern Esplanade flowerbeds
- A 120m2 wildflower meadow created on the lawns (part funded by KCC & Mayor’s Parlour)
- Eighteen new hanging baskets installed on lampposts
- Letter box installed
- Seasonal festoon lighting and bunting installed on lampposts
- Remotely monitored CCTV installed to deter antisocial behaviour and vandalism
- Regular deep clean of bandstand auditorium with new maintenance equipment
- Auditorium walls and steps repainted and blocked drains around bandstand cleared
- Reinstatement of four replica stone urns to plinths in bandstand auditorium
- Short sections of walls and railings removed to improve step-free access around the amphitheatre
- Three dog waste bins installed on the lawns which are regularly emptied by GRASS
- The Oval Kiosk fully refurbished (including urgent electrical works)
- Security lighting installed within amphitheatre and around toilet block
- Wi-fi installed
- Two large flowerbeds created at the auditorium steps and planted with spring bulbs & lavender
- Installation of four cycle stands near kiosk
- Dilapidated bandstand structure fully repaired and repainted
- Damaged bandstand steps fully repaired
- Remotely monitored wi-fi enabled burglar alarm installed
- Toilet facilities reconfigured and modernised with new fittings (hand-dryers, soap dispensers, baby-changer, etc.)
- Two step-free access ramps installed for direct access from amphitheatre to toilet block
- Step-free access to top tier of amphitheatre
- The Oval Bar created within the pavilion (aka the toilet block) to help support our free community events and fund further regeneration projects
- Fourteen large timber planters installed around perimeter of the venue and planted with lavender and seasonal flowers
- Community notice boards and signage installed
- All overgrown grass along footpath edges removed
- Timber bollards installed around perimeter of venue to restrict unauthorised vehicular access and improve safety for pedestrians
- New urinal room within toilet block
- Personal Address (PA) system installed within bandstand amphitheatre
- Outdoor feature/security lighting to kiosk
- Temporary Heras fencing to facilitate ongoing renovation works within amphitheatre
- Planters along wall at the main entrance ramp
- Terrace with fixed picnic tables and step-free access ramp down to the bandstand
Projects that are currently, or soon to be, in progress:
- Additional way-finding/information signage to be installed around the venue
- Additional CCTV cameras and security lighting to be installed
- Further step-free access improvements around amphitheatre
- Additional planters within bandstand amphitheatre
- New electric points on lawns for market traders
- Improvements to the Garden Maintenance Area, including the installation of a greenhouse
- Setting out and creating paths and flower beds for The Oval’s Wellness Garden
